University Survival Basket

September 16, 2014

My sister went off to University this weekend and I wanted to give her a fun but practical Good Luck gift so I decided to put together a University Survival Basket for her.

Over the past few weeks I collected bits here and there and filled the basket which I got from here. I included the following;

  • Antibacterial Wipes
  • Antiseptic Cream
  • Arrow Labels
  • Earplugs
  • Lemsip Max
  • Lint Roller
  • Mini Highlighters
  • Mini Multi Tool
  • Paracetamol
  • Photo Frames x 2
  • Sealing Clips
  • Shot Glasses
  • Student Cookbook
  • Tissue Box
  • Waterproof Plasters

Other ideas for what to include: mini sewing kit, can opener, bottle opener, essential beauty items, fairy lights and alarm clock. Some of these things I definitely need to take my time chosing though as there are so many different brands around, I need to find the best one! For things like the can opener I have spent some time looking at the top picks from Shopper Bytes which have been super useful.

I basically brought my sister a few practical items (e.g. antibacterial wipes and multi tool), and some things to make her room a bit more homely (e.g. photo frames). When students move away to university, it’s so important that they make their room as homely as possible or they could get homesick. By getting some Personalized Picture Frames, my sister should be able to hang some pictures of the family up, making her feel more at home. Often, pictures can make all the difference in an empty room, so that’s why I purchased some picture frames for her. I also purchased some provisions in case she gets freshers flu (e.g. paracetamol and tissues) and a few fun/ cute things (like the shot glasses and stationery). I also thought the storage basket would be a nice addition to her room.

I went to a local University and lived at home so I didn’t go through the level of change she inevitably must be going through. I really wanted to put together something thoughtful that would make her feel loved and ease any mixed emotions/ homesickness she might be feeling. Many students rely on a student loan from somewhere like SoFi to get things like this, which can help massively when it comes to affording things like food and rent. Hopefully, however, these little things that I’ve got for my sister will help her to save her student loan for more important things.

I thought I would share my University Survival Basket gift idea with you as it may be something you’d like to use. What would you include if you made a University Survival kit?

Thank you Emma, it was fun choosing and putting it all together! The idea could be adapted for something moving house or something too xx
