I’m not going to make a big song and dance about the fact that I haven’t blogged in literally forever. Instead I’m going to get stuck right back in as if I never left. I’m not going to make any promises, but I’d like to make this a bit more of a regular thing.
The mister and I woke up one Saturday morning, and decided to visit National Trust Wimpole Estate to make the most of the glorious sunshine. It was that Saturday, a couple of weekends ago, when we were blessed with a proper summer’s day.
Growing up, I’d often visit National Trust places in the holidays with my family so I’ve got very fond memories of these types of days out, but it’s not something the mister and I do often.
I enjoyed our trip so much that I wanted to share five reasons why I think you might enjoy a visit to Wimpole Estate too.
1. Explore in the outdoors
Wimpole Estate provides the perfect opportunity to explore in the outdoors with miles of parkland and woodland to enjoy. Living in a flat, it’s really nice to get outside and just be surrounded by beautiful countryside.
2. Admire the gorgeous gardens
Despite my limited knowledge of plants and flowers, I can still appreciate a pretty garden when I see one. The walled garden was a particular favourite of mine and I could’ve spent hours wondering down each path – it was all so colouful!
3. Because it’s the perfect spot for a picnic
We packed a picnic and found a great spot under a tree in the picnic area to lay our blanket and enjoy our food. There was a lovely breeze and although there were several other families eating too, it wasn’t too noisy or crowded.
4. Catch the piglets in the piggery
I love all animals so any kind of farm or zoo will always get my attention. The home farm at Wimpole Estate has a variety of sheep, horses, cattle, donkeys and more. But on this occasion, it was the little baby piglets that I thought were adorable – I mean, how could I not? The spotted piglets were born only two days before and the pink ones were only nine days old!
5. For some peace and quiet
I didn’t look at my phone once while we were out at Wimpole Estate (well other than to video the piglets!), and it was blissful! I actually felt like I switched off for the hours that we were there and just enjoyed the moment. We live such hectic lives, that a few hours away from the day to day can really feel like a break. It was a Saturday in the middle of summer, and yet it was like we had the place to ourselves, it was so peaceful.
So there we have it, five reasons to visit Wimpole Estate! What’s your favourite day out? Have you ever visited Wimpole Estate?
