Nail polish and mascaras are definitely my biggest beauty addictions, and although nail polish features quite heavily on my blog, mascaras less so. I thought it was about time that changed, and so I’ve decided to introduce a new series called ‘Mascara Monday’. I’m not committing to reviewing a mascara every Monday, but I do hope that I can share my thoughts on any mascara I’ve been trialing every few weeks or so.

I can never resist picking up the latest drugstore mascara releases as I find it so satisfying trying a new mascara for the first time. Recently when browsing the aisles of Superdrug I spotted the Bourjois Volume Reveal Mascara Radiant Black and I couldn’t help but pick it up.

Description

“Bourjois Volume Reveal Mascara has a built in mirror with x3 zoom that reveals lashes you didn’t know you had! The specially designed brush catches even the shortest of lashes for lash by lash volume without clumps.”

Packaging

The Bourjois Volume Reveal Mascara comes in a sleek black, Toblerone-shaped tube which I found quite intriguing. One of the three sides has a magnified mirror which is really handy for application on the go.

Wand and Formulation

This mascara has quite a skinny plastic wand with fairly short bristes that are slightly tapered towards the end. The formulation is a striking black shade and is slightly on the wet side so I do have to be careful to coat my lashes and only my lashes. However, I find that the formula does dry quickly which is very useful when applying a second or third coat.

Verdict

The Bourjois Volume Reveal Mascara promises to add volume to even the shortest of lashes without clumping. I have found that although this mascara does add a fair amount of volume, it’s not the most dramatically volumising mascara I have ever tried. But, it truly doesn’t clump, no matter how many coats I apply, which is great as I’m not a fan of clumpy mascara. The only thing I would say is that you do have to take care when trying to reach shorter lashes, I find you need quite a steady hand to get to them as the wand doesn’t quite seem to reach them.

I think this mascara is excellent for every day because of it’s separating and lengthening properties, it almost fans the lashes out and I really like the result.

For £9.99 it’s a pretty decent mascara that I would certainly recommend to someone looking for quite a naturally volumising and seperating effect.

Have you tried the Bourjois Volume Reveal Mascara? What did you think?
