The Girl On The Train By Paula Hawkins

Book Review | The Girl On The Train By Paula Hawkins
You all know that I’m a sucker for thriller books. When I see story prompts that could be turned into something tense and dramatic, I’m creating a plot for them! I think reading thriller and mystery books are the best because they have a twist in nearly every chapter!

“Rachel catches the same commuter train every morning. She knows it will wait at the same signal each time, overlooking a row of back gardens. She’s even started to feel like she knows the people who live in one of the houses. ‘Jess and Jason’, she calls them. Their life – as she sees it – is perfect. If only Rachel could be that happy. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Now Rachel has a chance to become a part of the lives she’s only watched from afar. Now they’ll see; she’s much more than just the girl on the train..”

I’m probably a little late to the party with this book review but I recently finished The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins. I’ve been loving mystery/ psychological thriller/ crime novels and some of my favourites include Gone Girl, Sharp Objects, Close My Eyes and Broken Dolls to name but a few. I really hoped that The Girl On The Train would be just as much of a page turner.

It took me a few chapters to get into The Girl On The Train but I was soon captivated by the tension and suspense of the story and I really liked the concept. There are plenty of twists and turns in this novel and it was only in the final chapters that I predicted the truth. I sympathised quite a bit with Rachel, the lonely alcoholic whose life is in tatters and I really liked the way the book is narrated via the perspective of three women. It’s not quite as dramatic as the likes of Gone Girl but it’s definitely a book I would recommend to someone that enjoys books in this genre.
