Hearting List #8: Book to Movie Adaptations
Chick literature, dramas, thrillers, YA… they’re some of my favourite genres to read and after finishing a novel I’ve loved there’s nothing I enjoy more than watching a good film adaptation. “The best film adaptations retain the spirit and themes of the books, but turn them into something uniquely cinematic”. Here is a list of some of my favourite.

  • A Walk To Remember
  • Dear John
  • Divergent Series (so far)
  • The Fault In Our Stars (Paper Towns didn’t disappoint either!)
  • Gone Girl
  • The Help
  • The Hunger Games Films
  • If I Stay
  • Love, Rosie
  • Still Alice

I thought the movie adaptations for The Help, If I Stay and The Fault in Our Stars were brilliant! Some things were left out or changed, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the films! I’ve seen Dear John and Love, Rosie but have yet to read the books! I need to read and watch Gone Girl and A Walk to Remember!

I think books and films have to be treated differently, producers have to condense an entire book down to like 2 hours, so I think it’s natural that certain elements have to be missed out xx

I love book to movie adaptations! I don’t think it’s really too fair when people compare the two because they’re two different art forms so obviously won’t be the same – also, a film is someone’s interpretation of someone else’s vision so it IS going to differ slightly at least. I think Atonement was both an amazing book and film! x

That’s very well said Josie. They definitely have to be treated as very different art forms as they serve a different purpose. I haven’t read Atonement, I’ll have to check it out xx

I loved the book version of love, Rosie. I still haven’t seen the movie, but I’ve heard it’s great.

So many great films and books I’m yet to watch or read! I loved Gone Girl, and was very impressed with the film! I also really liked the Harry Potter movies when they came out and was obsessed with the books! x

yes Gone Girl was great, I think I preferred the book to the film a bit with that one but the film was still excellent! Yess, Harry Potter is a great one! xx
