I was browsing HMV a couple of weeks ago and spotted Still Alice on the shelves, I’d seen the trailer for the film but hadn’t realised it was based on a book. Knowing I was quite intrigued by the film trailer and likely to watch the movie at some point I decided to read the book first. I much prefer to read books before watching the film adaptations.
“Alice Howland is proud of the life she worked so hard to build. At fifty years old, she’s a cognitive psychology professor at Harvard and a world-renowned expert in linguistics with a successful husband and three grown children. When she becomes increasingly disoriented and forgetful, a tragic diagnosis changes her life and her relationship with her family and the world forever.”
I’m not going to give anything more away as I don’t want to spoil it. But I will tell you that I found this book incredibly moving. Still Alice is beautifully written and I felt completely drawn by the words on the pages of this book, the story was believable and inspiring. I haven’t lived with a life changing disease but I found Alice’s account both honest and relatable. Definitely a book I’d recommend.

I haven’t brought any books there for a while (partly because all of my local HMV’s have closed!). If you do read it you’ll have to let me know what you think :) xx
